Yam Dwar is one of the most sacred sites associated with the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Located near Darchen in Tibet, it marks the official starting point of the holy Kailash Parikrama around Mount Kailash, the revered abode of Lord Shiva.

The name "Yam Dwar" means "Gateway of Yama," the God of Death in Hindu mythology. Devotees believe that passing through this sacred gateway symbolizes leaving behind worldly attachments and moving towards spiritual purification and enlightenment. As a result, Yam Dwar is often referred to as the "Gateway to Salvation."

Situated at an altitude of around 15,500 feet, Yam Dwar offers stunning views of Mount Kailash and the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Pilgrims stop here to pray, meditate, and seek blessings before beginning their spiritual journey.
