Anyone who has parked outside in a Dubai August knows what the heat does to a car's interior. What most drivers never see is what the same heat does to the battery under the bonnet. Heat, not cold, is the biggest killer of lead-acid batteries, and in the UAE it routinely cuts a battery's working life in half. The heat problem, explained simply

Manufacturers generally rate battery life against moderate climates.       Headlights dim at idle and brighten as you rev.

      Electrical oddities appear — a resetting clock, a flickering infotainment screen, a warning light that comes and goes.

      The battery case looks swollen, or there is white or blue-green crust around the terminals.
