Why a Strong Foundation Matters in UPSC Preparation

For all the aspirants aiming to start their preparation of UPSC Civil Services, it is necessary to build a good foundation. The exam covers questions across the entire breadth of disciplines and in the beginning aspirants may find it hard to relate one subject with another in terms of the entire syllabus.

A foundation-oriented approach gives you the clarity of concepts which then can be progressed for advanced preparation. All the subjects like History, Geography, Indian Polity and Economy need you to understand concepts, terminologies and significant developments. NCERT books can be effective in starting your preparation as the foundational concepts in a somewhat easier to understand language are presented there.

Similarly answer writing: Not that aspirants will start writing answers in Mains format immediately at the start. However, practising how to build answers by compiling relevant information, using examples and making relevant conclusions can indeed be beneficial even at the beginning.

Last but not the least, if aspirants are looking for a systematic structured preparation they can even consider for a foundation course, which will enable them in following a routine and preparing under the guidance of mentors so as to cover difficult concepts, make revisions and get themselves acquainted with the dynamics of the examination.

However the sole idea is not to cover the syllabus in the quickest possible way but in building such an arsenal for your self which could help you in not just Prelims but even in Mains examination preparation.
