Before enrolling in a UPSC coaching program, candidates should make sure what exactly they will be receiving. This helps in selecting a program which may supplement the student’s self-study efforts and avoid one which does the same things they may have done already.

Candidates should first enquire about the syllabus coverage of the course. Is it focused on Prelims, Mains, or both? Does it cover General studies, CSAT, current affairs, answer writing and test practice?

Candidates should evaluate class format and schedule to ascertain what works for them in relation to live classes, online classes and their personal timetable. Plenty of time should be allocated for individual study and revision.

Study material availability should be another concern. Candidates should make sure study materials are UPSC syllabus-oriented, and structured in a way that allows for ample revision.

Test series and evaluation should be enquired. Students should make sure that the tests taken are sufficient and that they receive feedback, particularly the answer writing evaluation in the case of the mains that will help candidates formulate better answers, structure it and write within time constraints.

Mentorship and clarification of doubts is another criterion that students should inquire about, given that UPSC preparation is a long one that may need the guidance of experts to guide individual preparation strategies, pinpoint lacunas and correct.

Finally, students should confirm admission criteria, duration and other relevant information with regard to the coaching program before they apply.

The suitable coaching program should be structured without discouraging independent learning. Aspirants should weigh all their options before selecting a program which would best guide them through their journey towards Civil Services.
