Spatial Reference System Identifier (SRID) is the name for a unique numeric identifier used to describe the coordinate reference system (CRS) used in the definition of geographical or spatial data. The use of SRID identifiers is critical in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), databases, maps, and any geospatial application since only coordinates alone cannot define how the positions are referenced on the Earth's surface.
