In the context of leadership, the ego is often described as a part of oneself attached to identity, achievements, possessions and opinions. It is associated with the need to feel superior and recognized, and with the fear of inadequacy or rejection. It is a person's self-perception, enabling them to understand themselves, relate to others and adapt to the demands of the groups they want to be part of. However, an overly dominant ego leads to egocentric behavior, an excessive thirst for recognition and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, too weak an ego leads to a lack of self-confidence and difficulties in asserting oneself.
