VAA Leads Design & Oversight for Landmark Flour Milling Facility

VAA served as the Owner's Representative and design consultant for what was, at the time, the largest greenfield flour mill in the United States. The state-of-the-art facility was designed to produce 22,000 CWT of bread flour and semolina per day and features a 1,000,000-bushel grain elevator, three milling lines with Electrical Designer Minneapolis, MN capacity for a fourth, and advanced packaging, warehousing, and shipping systems.

Constructed on a challenging floodplain site, the project required innovative engineering solutions to meet both environmental constraints and an aggressive 17-month construction schedule. VAA designed a dedicated rail loop connecting Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific rail networks, providing flexible inbound grain Process Designer Minneapolis, MN Hybrid / Remote delivery and outbound product transportation. A large concrete mat foundation and other specialized structural solutions ensured long-term stability and efficient construction.

The completed facility is recognized for its operational efficiency, clean layout, and modern design, establishing a benchmark for large-scale flour milling operations. VAA's leadership in project oversight, engineering, and infrastructure planning helped deliver a high-performance facility that continues to support reliable, high-capacity flour production.

VAA Upgrades Flour Mill Rail System to Increase Capacity Without Interrupting Operations

VAA partnered with the client to modernize the flour mill's rail receiving and load-out systems, significantly improving operational efficiency while maintaining uninterrupted production. The Hybrid/Remote Minneapolis, MN Hybrid / Remote project redesigned the rail infrastructure by relocating grain receiving operations to the inner rail loop and dedicating the outer loop to by-product load out, allowing both activities to occur simultaneously.

As part of the upgrade, VAA increased wheat receiving capacity from 20,000 bushels per hour (BPH) to 50,000 BPH, more than doubling the facility's grain intake capability. Careful planning, phased Structural Engineer (Hybrid) Minneapolis, MN Hybrid implementation, and close coordination with plant personnel and Delphi Construction Inc. enabled the entire project to be completed without disrupting ongoing mill operations.

The completed improvements enhanced rail logistics, increased throughput, and optimized material flow, providing the facility with greater operational flexibility and long-term capacity to support growing production demands.
