Advances in collecting 3D spatial data using lidar sensors, drones, self-driving cars, and terrestrial laser scanners have changed the way geographic environments are represented and analyzed. Contrary to conventional 2D imagery, 3D point clouds are characterized by detailed spatial information on the geometry, structure, and elevation of actual objects.
