U4GM Diablo 4 Meat or Treat Shrine Encounters
Author : Hartmann846 Werner | Published On : 30 Oct 2026
During Diablo 4's Meat or Treat event, activating a Nightmare Dungeon shrine can trigger an Infernal Butcher encounter or spawn Treasure Goblins alongside the usual shrine effect. The event dates are October 28 through November 4, 2026, and both Seasonal and Eternal characters can take part. Plan your shrine runs around the rewards you want, and browse Diablo 4 Items while considering your next equipment upgrades.
How Meat or Treat Changes Nightmare Dungeon Shrines
During the event, a shrine can add an unexpected encounter to its normal buff, so activating one may bring a fight as well as a benefit. The reported effects differ by shrine type, but an encounter isn't guaranteed every time.
The event is scheduled to end at 7 p.m. CET, or 10 a.m. PST, on November 4. Choose a dungeon difficulty your character can handle with an extra boss in the room, especially if you're playing Hardcore.
1 Find Shrines That Can Trigger Encounters
Greed Shrines are the first ones to look for when your goal is an Infernal Butcher fight. Pick Nightmare Dungeon Sigils that list shrines, then check the shrine type before deciding how to approach it.
Reported encounters give you a useful starting point.
• Greed Shrines were reported as the most reliable trigger for the Infernal Butcher during the event's first two days.
• Artillery Shrines have also been reported to trigger the fiery boss, giving you another opportunity if you find one during a run.
• Channeling Shrines marked by a red glow and circling event runes were reported to spawn Treasure Goblins.
These reports describe patterns rather than guaranteed outcomes, so keep moving through the dungeon if a shrine doesn't produce the encounter you want. A shrine route gives you several chances while also letting you collect the dungeon's usual rewards.
2 Prepare for the Fight Before Activation
Clear immediate threats around a shrine before you touch it, particularly when your build struggles against the Butcher's damage. At a Greed Shrine, preserve nearby enemies you can safely fight while the buff is active, because kills during that window help produce goblins.
Your preparation changes what you can safely gain.
• The Infernal Butcher hits hard enough to end a run for an undergeared character, so a comfortable dungeon tier is more useful than a risky one.
• Greed Shrines produce goblins based on the number of monsters you kill while the shrine effect is active.
• Nemesis Bracers spawn an elite pack on shrine activation, adding enemies to the immediate fight.
There's a tradeoff between keeping enemies alive for the Greed effect and leaving yourself surrounded when a boss appears. Adjust the pull to your character's survival tools, and treat every shrine as a possible boss fight on Hardcore characters.
3 Turn Goblin Kills Into Event Rewards
Activate the March of the Goblins board in western Kyovashad before you begin farming shrine encounters. It's next to the Waypoint, and Treasure Goblin kills across Sanctuary contribute reputation once you've started the track.
The board gives your goblin encounters a second purpose.
• Its gifts include gold, crafting materials, Murmuring Obols, gem fragments and runes as you progress through the listed rewards.
• Fedric's Gift includes Fedric's Masterpiece, containing a Resplendent Spark and several runes.
• Even ranks improve Treasure Bag drops, while a repeatable chest continues to reward goblin kills after rank 10.
Opening the board first makes a Channeling Shrine's reported goblin encounter useful for reputation as well as immediate loot. Claim the listed rewards as you earn them, and remember that shrine farming is only one way to find the goblins needed for progress.
What Should You Do Before November 4
Start at the Kyovashad board, then run shrine-heavy Nightmare Dungeons at a difficulty where you can survive an unexpected Infernal Butcher fight. Prioritize Greed Shrines for reported boss encounters, keep manageable enemies available for the shrine buff, and claim your track rewards as you progress. You can browse Diablo 4 materials while planning upgrades for your next dungeon run, without treating a purchase as a requirement for the event.
