Tourist Places in Rajasthan in Winter: A Simple Guide for 2026–27

Author : RAJASTHAN TOUR SERVICES | Published On : 22 Oct 2026

The best tourist places in Rajasthan in winter are Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pushkar, Bikaner, Mount Abu and Ranthambore. The best months are October to March. Days stay around 20–27°C, which is ideal for forts, palaces and desert safaris. Nights can drop to 5–9°C, and Mount Abu can touch 0°C.

Winter is the best season to visit Rajasthan. In summer, many cities cross 40°C and sightseeing is tiring. From mid-November to February the weather is cool and dry, and you can explore forts, lakes and the Thar Desert comfortably. At Rajasthan Tour Services, a Jaipur-based tour operator, winter is our busiest season. This guide shares what we tell our own guests.

Tourist Places in Rajasthan in Winter

Why Visit Rajasthan in Winter?

  • Comfortable sightseeing: Climbing Amber Fort, Mehrangarh and Jaisalmer Fort is easy in cool weather.
  • Desert season: Camel safaris and Sam sand dunes camps are best in the cool months.
  • Festival season: The state’s biggest fairs and festivals happen between November and February.
  • Wildlife: Dry winter forests make tiger sightings in Ranthambore easier.

Best Tourist Places in Rajasthan in Winter

1. Jaipur, the Pink City

Jaipur is the best starting point for a first-time visit. Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Jantar Mantar are all pleasant in winter, and Nahargarh Fort gives a lovely sunset view. Reach Amber at opening time for soft light and fewer crowds.

2. Jaisalmer, the Golden City

Jaisalmer is the top choice for a desert camp. Explore the living fort and Patwon ki Haveli, then spend a night at Sam dunes. Desert nights get very cold, so choose a camp with closed Swiss tents and heavy blankets. For a quieter option, visit the abandoned villages of Kuldhara and Khaba.

3. Udaipur, the City of Lakes

Udaipur is perfect for couples and honeymoons. Take a boat ride on Lake Pichola at sunset, when the City Palace walls glow gold. Add Sajjangarh for panoramic views.

4. Jodhpur, the Blue City

Mehrangarh Fort is one of India’s finest forts. Walk through the blue lanes of the old town between 8 and 10 am, when the low sun makes the colours glow. Jaswant Thada is also worth a visit.

5. Pushkar

Pushkar is a calm holy town with sacred ghats and the Brahma temple. It becomes lively during the Pushkar Camel Fair in November (about 17–24 November 2026).

6. Bikaner

Bikaner has the grand Junagarh Fort and the Karni Mata temple. Try camel-milk tea and fresh Bikaneri bhujia from local shops.

7. Mount Abu

Mount Abu is Rajasthan’s only hill station, with Dilwara temples, Nakki Lake and Guru Shikhar. It is a good pick for families who want a cooler escape. Pack heavy woollens, because temperatures can fall close to freezing.

8. Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore is famous for tiger safaris. Book safaris on the official portal as soon as your dates are fixed.

9. Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh

These two UNESCO World Heritage hill forts are great for history lovers. Kumbhalgarh’s wall stretches about 36 km. Combine it with the Ranakpur Jain temple on the Udaipur to Jodhpur drive.

Rajasthan Winter Festivals 2026–27

  • Pushkar Camel Fair: about 17–24 November 2026
  • Mount Abu Winter Festival: usually the last days of December

How Many Days Do You Need?

  • 5 days: Jaipur, Pushkar and Udaipur
  • 7 days: Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, with one night in a desert camp
  • 10 days: Jaipur, Ranthambore, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer

If you have only one week, we recommend the Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer circuit. It shows the forts, the blue city and the Thar Desert at their winter best.

Expert Tips for Winter Travel in Rajasthan

  1. Pack warm layers. Carry a jacket, cap, gloves and shawl for nights and early safaris.
  2. Book early. Reserve hotels 2–3 months ahead for Christmas, New Year, Pushkar Fair and mid-January.
  3. Avoid driving after dark. Winter fog is common in December and January, so plan to reach your hotel before 6 pm.
  4. Allow two nights per city. Distances are long and winter daylight is short.
  5. Use a private car with a local driver. It is the easiest way to link cities, as some routes have limited train options.
  6. Carry sun protection. The desert sun is still strong, so bring sunglasses and sunscreen.
