In MS WT mice, WAS induced VHS for up to 4 weeks. In cKO however, visceral pain perception returned to basal level by week 4. The development of VHS in WT mice was associated with significant upregulation of spinal ephrin-B2 and EphB1 mRNA expression or protein levels in the TNBS model and upregulation of spinal ephrin-B2 protein in the MS model. No changes were observed in cKO mice. VHS was not associated with persistent intestinal inflammation. CONCLUSIONS AND INFERENCES Overall, our data indicate that the ephrin-B2/EphB1 spinal signaling pathway is involved in VHS and may represent a novel therapeutic target. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Thromboelastography (TEG) as a global coagulation test has been continuously developed for many decades in either research or clinical practice. The versatility of TEG test leads to difficulty in standardization and result interpretation. Reference intervals (RIs) of TEG may be one of the most controversial factors that influence its wide applications. RIs establishment with the traditional method is time-consuming and laborious as well as beyond general laboratory capability. Indirect method using stored data and with statistical calculation and small cost is emerging as an alternative approach for RIs determination. Gender, age, or both affect RIs and must be taken into account before RIs estimation. The present study retrospectively collected a total of 930 TEG results as subjects and established RIs with indirect method for Kaolin-activated TEG, including the parameters of R, K, αAngle, MA, and CI. Furthermore, gender, age, and gender-dependent age subsets analyses were performed to determine their effects on RIs of TEG. In this study, we found that TEG parameters showed more hypercoagulability in female than male, most of the measured TEG variables were significantly associated with aging, but only in male statistical significance was found among different age stratification and 60-year-old could be considered as cutting point to differentiate coagulation ability in male. In addition, RIs of TEG were estimated by indirect method suitably and verified to be valid in our study. Finally, the RIs of TEG by indirect method were basically significantly different to the RIs recommended by manufacturer, but the consistent percentage is relatively high in the most of measured parameters. In conclusion, it is suggestive that the indirect method for RIs establishment is feasible, but relevant factors, such as gender and age, specifically gender-dependent age effect, should be considered before RIs determinations. © 2020 The Authors. The validity of findings is dependent on the quality of the instruments used; therefore, it is essential that psychometrically robust measures of illness perceptions are available. The purpose of this systematic review was to identify, assess and compare the psychometric properties of instruments designed to measure illness perceptions in family members of individuals with chronic physical illnesses. A systematic search was conducted using MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus and PsycINFO databases, and supplemented with forward and backward searches. Studies were included in the review if they described the development, adaptation or psychometric evaluation of an instrument designed to measure illness perceptions in family members of an individual with a chronic physical illness. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the COSMIN Risk of Bias checklist. The psychometric quality of instruments was evaluated using published quality assessment criteria. Eleven articles describing nine different instruments were included in the review. Almost all instruments were designed for parents of a child with a chronic illness. There was wide variation in the quality of methods used to develop, adapt or evaluate the instruments, and missing information restricted the evaluation of psychometric properties. Further validation is needed for all instruments before meaningful conclusions can be drawn. Findings indicate that measurement of illness perceptions in children or siblings of an individual with a chronic physical illness has been largely ignored. Future research addressing this gap would be an important addition to the current body of work examining illness perceptions in family members. VPA inhibitor supplier © 2020 Nordic College of Caring Science.BACKGROUND All professions in surgical care have a responsibility to include patients in their health care. By Swedish law, all care should be done in dialogue with the patient. The essential part of health care is the meeting between patient and healthcare professional. In the interaction, a decision can be made, and needs can be identified to a safer care. Previous studies on patient participation have focussed on patients' perspectives in surgical care, but there is a paucity of studies about the personnel's perspective of estimated patient involvement in surgical care. AIM The aim of this study was to identify and describe healthcare personnel's view and behaviour regarding patient involvement in surgical care. METHOD A quantitative study with various professions was conducted. A validated questionnaire was used, remaining questions grouped under following areas patient involvement, acute phase, hospital time, discharge phase and questions on employment and workplace. RESULTS A total of 140 questionnaires were sent out to a surgical clinic in Sweden, and 102 questionnaires were answered. All professionals stated that clear information is an important part of patient involvement in surgical care. Statistically significant differences existed between the professions in the subscale information. Physicians rated their information higher than the Registered Nurses (p = 0.005) and the practical nurses did (p = 0.001). Hindrances to involving patients were lack of time and other priority tasks. CONCLUSIONS Professionals in surgical care graded information to be the most important thing for patient involvement. Participation in important decisions, including the possibility to express personal views and ask questions, is important factors for patient involvement. Barriers against patient involvement are lack of time and prioritisation of other work activities. © 2020 Nordic College of Caring Science.
