The Benefits of Speed Bumpings

Speed bumps and humps are temporary traffic control devices that are installed on highways. These devices are designed to decrease vehicle speeds. These are generally constructed of rubber tires with reflective tape to increase visibility. These traffic control devices have numerous benefits, including reducing the number of accidents and injuries, and promoting awareness. They are also highly visible, so drivers can easily see them and slow down before hitting them. Unlike painted lines on a surface or stop signs, these temporary barriers can't be ignored by reckless motorists.

In a recent ruling, the Stamford Superior Court decided that speed bumps are an unnecessary traffic calming measure. They also have adverse impact on pedestrians and cyclists. In the case of a private association, it is difficult to use speed bumps on arterial roads and streets with wide shoulders. These obstructive devices are commonly placed on local roads and twinned with curbs and other obstructive measures.

In 1993, the Swedish Road Administration published a comprehensive report that found that speed humps were not effective at reducing pedestrian fatalities. The study was based on a small number of cases, but nonetheless shows a decrease in fatalities. In fact, it was shown that there were fewer pedestrians hit by cars when traffic slowed. However, the impact of speed humps on pedestrians is still debated, which has led to a number of road construction projects to be abandoned.

As a result of the study, the UK Department of Transport has amended the 1996 regulations to make speed bumps more effective. The regulations governing the use of speed humps have been revised. The purpose of the new regulations is to reduce the number of pedestrian deaths. After a public outcry, the speed humps were dumped in 2003 after the protests. In the October 2003 edition of The Times, a prominent article on speed bumps was published that argued for their use.

Despite their popularity, speed humps are not always effective. For example, a speed bump can have a devastating effect on pedestrians. In contrast, speed humps on arterial roads are not suitable for streets with wide shoulders and should be avoided on these types of roads. Those with narrow shoulder areas are not appropriate for speed humps. They are better placed on residential streets, and the traffic conditions they affect are also different.
