Breast cancer does not always begin with an obvious lump. Sometimes the first sign is a change in the breast nipple or skin that might seem really small or easy to ignore. In some cases, there might also be no noticeable symptoms at all which is the only reason why regular screening and awareness of all changes in your breasts are so important. Knowing the symptoms of breast cancer does not mean that every breast change is cancer. Many breast lumps, pain and skin changes are also caused by conditions that are not cancerous.
What are the common symptoms of breast cancer?

A new lump in the breast or underarm

Swelling or thickening of the breast

Unusual nipple discharge
Nipple discharge that is not breast milk can sometimes be associated with breast cancer. This includes discharge that is bloody or appears without squeezing the nipple. But nipple discharge can have even several other causes.
A change in breast size or shape
One breast might suddenly look different from the other or you might notice a change in the right size or shape of breast. Some natural differences between breasts are completely normal. What matters is noticing a change that is unusual for you. Breast appearance can also change because of age or hormonal changes

You should seek medical evaluation for changes such as:
- A new lump in the breast or underarm
- New breast swelling or thickening
- Skin dimpling or puckering
- Persistent redness or flaky skin

- Unusual nipple discharge, especially blood
- A new change in breast size or shape
- Persistent or unusual breast pain
What does a breast cancer lump feel like?
There is no single way a breast cancer lump feels. Some cancerous lumps might feel hard or irregular while others can be softer round or tender. Because lumps can feel very different from person to person is not possible for you to determine whether a lung is cancer simply by touching it.
So you can say that the symptoms of breast cancer can vary widely. A new lump is one of the most common signs but breast cancer might also cause swelling nipple changes and unusual discharges. At the same time the symptoms can occur with many cancerous conditions.
