Supplier of Trellis Netting from China: Field Checks

Wet plants put load on trellis mesh, so ask a supplier of trellis netting from China for measured samples. The opening size and support-wire spacing should suit the crop rather than a catalogue picture.
Choose mesh opening size around the crop, not merely the lowest-priced roll. Pepper stems and climbing ornamentals need different spacing; a roll sold as trellis netting is not automatically interchangeable. Check finished roll width and length with the required support-post spacing.

Aperture measurements should be taken at several positions to detect distortion at the edges of a wound roll. Decide whether the growing system needs vertical support for vines or horizontal layers for cut flowers.
Load and handling in the field
Ask for material type, ultraviolet-stabilisation details and a sample from production. Wet foliage adds weight and can pull unsupported netting into the walking aisle at harvest. Inspect the mesh junctions because a weak joint can tear when plants are trained or harvested. Calculate the load on tension wires when wet plants reach their mature weight. Crew members should be able to train stems with their usual gloves without tearing ties or damaging foliage.
Test whether gloved workers can pass stems and clips through the selected mesh.
Clarify roll core, folded or wound packing, label language and carton dimensions. An unopened roll can hide torn nodes in the middle, so sample checks should not stop at the first metre. Check tolerance for width, aperture and weight on a measured sample instead of a catalogue image. Request a clear production and shipping schedule for a seasonal planting deadline. Planting dates are fixed by weather; a late shipment can cost more than a small difference in roll price.
Agree how damaged rolls, short lengths and inconsistent batches will be handled.
