Vapour-Phase Nitrogen Storage: A Short Practical Note
Author : Cryovault Biotech | Published On : 03 Sep 2026
Long-term cryogenic storage of biological material is generally carried out in the vapour phase above liquid nitrogen rather than in the liquid itself. Vapour-phase storage holds samples below the glass transition temperature while reducing the risk of cross-contamination between units and the risk of liquid ingress into a sealed bag. Facilities running vapour-phase systems monitor temperature continuously and maintain backup nitrogen supply and generator capacity.
