Steam Trap Manufacturer in India for Efficient Steam and Condensate Management
Steam systems work efficiently only when condensate and non-condensable gases are removed without allowing useful steam to escape. That is the job of a steam trap. Although it is a relatively small component, an incorrectly selected trap can affect heat transfer, increase steam consumption and contribute to water hammer.
Speciality Valve is a steam trap manufacturer in India, manufacturing steam traps for process heating, steam mains, heat exchangers, tracing lines, dryers, refineries, chemical plants and power applications.
There is no single steam trap design suitable for every service. The correct choice depends on how the equipment produces condensate and how quickly that condensate needs to be discharged.
An inverted bucket steam trap uses the difference in density between steam and condensate. As steam enters the bucket, it becomes buoyant and closes the discharge mechanism. When steam condenses, the bucket loses buoyancy and the valve opens to discharge condensate. This robust mechanical arrangement is commonly considered for steam-main drainage and applications where resistance to water hammer is important.
A float and thermostatic steam trap is better suited to equipment where condensate should be removed continuously. The float responds to condensate level, while a thermostatic element helps remove air during start-up.
Thermodynamic steam traps use the pressure and velocity characteristics of steam and condensate to operate a disc. Their compact construction makes them useful for steam distribution and tracing applications.
Thermostatic and bimetallic traps are another option where condensate can be discharged below steam saturation temperature.
Material selection changes with pressure and temperature. Depending on the design, bodies can be manufactured from ASTM A126 Class B cast iron, ASTM A216 WCB carbon steel, ASTM A105 forged carbon steel or ASTM A351 CF8M stainless steel. For low-temperature or specialized services, grades such as A350 LF2 or suitable stainless steels may be specified.
Internal components commonly use SS304, SS316 or hardened stainless steel for corrosion and wear resistance.
Steam traps are normally self-acting and do not require pneumatic or electric actuators. Their operation comes directly from temperature, density or thermodynamic changes within the steam and condensate.
Sizing should never be based only on pipe connection. Engineers should consider steam pressure, condensate load, differential pressure, start-up load and the amount of air that must be removed.
As a steam trap manufacturer in India, Speciality Valve can manufacture steam trap configurations for industrial steam systems designed around project-specific pressure, temperature, capacity and connection requirements.
A correctly selected steam trap does more than discharge water. It keeps heat-transfer surfaces available for steam, reduces unnecessary steam loss and helps the complete steam system operate more efficiently
