South Korea Visa Documents for Indians: Complete Checklist and Preparation Guide
Author : Mayuresh M | Published On : 23 Oct 2026
A complete, consistent document set is the most important part of a South Korea visa application. For most Indian travellers, the relevant category is the C-3 short-term visa: C-3-9 for tourism and C-3-4 for short business visits. The Embassy of Korea in India notes that the consul can request additional documents, so treat any checklist as a starting point and follow the instructions for your jurisdiction.
This guide covers the core documents, the extra papers for different applicant types and the preparation habits that reduce queries.
In this guide: Core documents · By applicant type · Financial proof · Business travel · Photos and form · Preparation tips · Mistakes · FAQs
Which checklist applies to you?
Checklists differ between the Embassy in New Delhi and the Consulates General in Mumbai and Chennai, so start by identifying your mission. Maharashtra falls under the Consulate General in Mumbai, and its visa requirements page lists the current checklist and the agencies that accept applications. Before you gather anything, also read the Embassy's consular and visa notices for updates. The Mumbai consulate has posted a notice on procedure changes from 1 October 2026.
Core documents for a South Korea tourist visa (C-3-9)
For Indian applicants, the following items usually appear on the checklist of the designated centre:
-
Original passport with the validity your checklist requires (commonly at least six months), and a copy of the first and last pages.
-
Electronic application form filled in on the Korea Visa Portal, printed and signed.
-
Photograph in the specified size (commonly 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm with a white background).
-
Covering letter and travel itinerary explaining the purpose and plan for your stay.
-
Flight and accommodation proof. The BLS International checklist for Mumbai and Hyderabad asks for refundable tickets and refundable accommodation confirmations, which helps if the visa is delayed or refused.
-
Occupation proof: An employment certificate for employees or a bonafide certificate for students.
-
Financial documents: Typically two years of income tax returns and the last six months of bank statements.
-
Identity copy: The BLS checklist also lists a copy of the Aadhaar card.
Confirm each item against the checklist for your mission, because the Mumbai page is the authority for Maharashtra applicants and provider pages may lag behind.

How much bank balance do you need to show?
The official pages reviewed do not state one universal minimum balance, even though many websites quote figures from ₹70,000 to ₹2 lakh. Do not treat any of those as a rule. What matters is that your six months of statements are recent, complete, consistent and clearly show enough funds and regular income to cover the trip. Bank-stamped statements are often requested, so ask your bank branch for them in advance. Large unexplained deposits shortly before applying can prompt questions.
Documents for a business visa (C-3-4)
For business trips, the core documents above still apply, with additional proof of the business purpose:
-
Invitation letter from the Korean company. The Embassy's guidance says a photocopy or scanned copy is acceptable and that no attestation is needed in Korea. It should include the inviting company's name, address and contact person.
-
Your employer's covering letter stating your role, the purpose of travel, dates and who bears the costs.
-
Company proof such as registration documents and a business profile form where your checklist asks for them.
-
Meeting or event details that match the dates in your invitation and itinerary.
Make sure the dates, names and purpose agree across the invitation, covering letter and itinerary.
The application form and photograph
All applicants must complete the electronic form on the Korea Visa Portal. Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains that the e-form is printed with a bar code and submitted with your other documents. The Mumbai consulate says the applicant's name and signature on the last page are mandatory.
The Korean visa application guide on the Chennai consulate's site describes the sequence for Indian applicants: confirm the visa type and documents, fill in and print the e-form, submit at the application centre, then check your status online.
Preparation tips
-
Use one folder, one order. Arrange documents in the sequence on your checklist.
-
Check names everywhere. Spellings must match across the passport, e-form, bank statements, employer letters and invitation.
-
Keep dates consistent. Align flight, hotel, itinerary and invitation dates.
-
Prefer refundable bookings. Avoid non-refundable payments until you are comfortable with the process.
-
Get documents early. Bank stamps, employer letters and attested copies can take days.
-
Copy everything. Keep scans of your full set and your application reference.
-
Track the result. Use the Visa Portal status page after submission.
Common document mistakes
-
Using an outdated checklist or one from a different consulate.
-
Submitting unsigned forms or bank statements without the requested stamp or seal.
-
Missing explanation letters for gaps such as no ITR.
-
Mismatched names, dates or purpose between documents.
-
Choosing a visa category that does not match your documents.
-
Relying on unofficial agents who promise to arrange "show money" or backdated papers. Korean missions warn that falsified documents can have serious consequences, including refusal and entry bans.
