The VIT Bhopal campus recently witnessed a jubilant celebration as students, faculty and staff came together to mark the arrival of the new academic year with grand harvest festival festivities. The event, held on January 8 at the auditorium of the New Academic Building, brought a colourful blend of tradition, culture and community spirit to life.
The celebrations kicked off with a traditional puja at the main entrance of VIT Bhopal, followed by the ceremonial lighting of lamps in the auditorium—an age-old symbol of new beginnings and shared optimism. Distinguished academic leaders, including the Honourable Vice President Sankar Viswanathan and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. T. B. Sridharan, graced the occasion along with deans, directors, faculty members and students.
At the heart of the programme were energetic cultural performances that showcased the rich tapestry of India’s regional harvest festivals. Student clubs brought to life the spirit of Pongal, Lohri, Sankranti and Bihu, offering a vibrant display of music, dance and traditional rituals. These colourful presentations not only entertained but also reflected the diverse cultural heritage within the VIT Bhopal community.
Adding deeper meaning to the festivities, VIT Bhopal honoured local farmers from Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, recognising their vital contribution to society and the essence of harvest celebrations. This gesture of gratitude highlighted the university’s appreciation for the agricultural backbone of the nation and brought a grounded sense of purpose to the event.
Students also took to the stage with speeches delivered in multiple Indian languages such as Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu, Bengali, Hindi and English, demonstrating the linguistic diversity that thrives on the VIT Bhopal campus.
Addressing the audience, Vice President Sankar Viswanathan emphasised that a university’s true strength lies not only in its academic excellence but in the shared experiences and mutual respect fostered among its community. His remarks resonated with the audience, reinforcing the spirit of unity and belonging that the harvest festival instilled across the campus.
As the event drew to a close with enthusiastic participation and spirited performances, VIT Bhopal reaffirmed its commitment to fostering cultural inclusivity, community bonds and a vibrant campus life for all.
