Shaadi Muhurat 2027: Which Months Are Open for Weddings?

A wedding date is rarely just a date. It decides which venues are free, how far guests must travel and even what the weather will be like. The Shaadi Muhurat 2027 calendar lists 96 auspicious dates in the North Indian Vedic Panchang, calculated for New Delhi sunrise. Those dates are packed into some months and absent from others. Knowing which months are open, and why, is the quickest way to a realistic shortlist.

Where the 96 Dates Fall

Depending on your region and family custom, these dates may be called shubh vivah dates, lagan dates or saya. May is the busiest month with 18 dates, followed by June with 16 and February with 13. November has 11, and January and April have 9 each. March and December have 7 each, and July has 6.

August, September and October have no dates at all. That leaves nine open months and one long pause in the middle of the year.

What Makes a Date Auspicious

No date is marked auspicious on one factor alone. Astrologers start with the Moon's Nakshatra, and eleven are considered suitable for marriage, including Rohini, Hasta, Anuradha and Revati. They then check the tithi, which should be favourable, along with the yoga and karana. The Vishti Karana, for example, is avoided even when everything else looks good.

Jupiter and Venus must not be combust. Prohibited periods are applied last, as a final filter. Only dates that pass every check are listed, and the timing window for the day is fixed afterwards.

The Reason Autumn Is Closed

Several restrictions overlap in the second half of the year. Chaturmas runs from Devshayani Ekadashi on 13 July to Devuthani Ekadashi on 9 November. Shukra Asta, when Venus is combust, lasts from roughly 20 July to mid-September, and Venus is the planet linked to marriage.

Khar Maas adds more gaps, including 16 to 30 September and 1 to 17 October, and Pitru Paksha also falls in September and October. In practice, couples marry either before 12 July or from 10 November onwards.

The Three Stretches of the Year

January to April has 38 dates. January opens on the 15th, once Khar Maas ends. February is generous with 13 dates. March is shorter, because Holashtak in early March and a Khar Maas window from 15 to 31 March limit it, so every March date falls before the 15th. April restarts on the 18th.

May to July has 40 dates. This is the densest stretch. May alone has a long run from 13 to 25 May, which helps families planning several functions. The season closes after 12 July.

November and December have 18 dates. Weddings return after Devuthani Ekadashi, with the first date on 10 November. These months suit families who prefer cooler weather.

Weekend Dates Go First

Of the 96 dates, 28 land on a Saturday or Sunday. June leads with seven weekend dates, followed by May with six and February with four. November has only two, 20 and 21 November.

Relatives travelling from other cities usually prefer weekends, so these dates tend to be chosen early. If a weekend matters to you, especially in a month with few options, decide sooner rather than later.

A Simple Way to Choose

Working through a few questions in order saves a lot of back and forth.

  1. Start with your pandit. Some families prefer a particular Nakshatra or follow customs of their own.

  2. Decide how much the weekday matters. If many guests are travelling, a weekend may be worth prioritising.

  3. Think about the weather. Winter evenings can be cold, while May to July may be hot or rainy depending on the region.

  4. Look at the whole schedule. Several functions need separate days, so clusters such as 1 to 4 March, 13 to 25 May, 23 to 26 November and 7 to 9 December let each ceremony fall on its own suitable day.

  5. Check availability. Confirm the venue and key vendors before treating any date as final.

Why Timings Can Differ

Muhurat timings follow New Delhi sunrise. In other cities they can shift by 20 to 45 minutes, and remote locations may vary a little more. Different panchang traditions can also differ slightly, and occasionally a date may change within a month.

Some windows start late in the evening or run past midnight, so read the exact start and end times carefully. Your family pandit should confirm the final lagna for your city.
