In a transformative move spearheaded by Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, UT adviser/home secretary, and transport secretary, bus queue shelters in the city are gearing up for a technological revolution. The imminent installation of artificial intelligence AI-based CCTV cameras, complete with cutting-edge face recognition technology, is set to fortify security measures while simultaneously ushering in a new era of efficiency in monitoring the city's bus services.

According to Nitin Yadav, the integration of AI into the CCTV cameras will provide an additional layer of safety and security at bus shelters. Moreover, these smart cameras will play a pivotal role in tracking and analysing the usage and passenger load on specific bus routes, bringing a new dimension to the efficiency of the public transportation system.

The AI-based CCTV cameras will seamlessly integrate with the existing Intelligent Transport System (ITS) on all Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses operating across Tricity routes. This enhancement builds upon the success of the current system, where CTU buses already feature CCTV cameras, albeit not AI-based. The addition of AI technology is expected to elevate the functionality of the local bus service, further solidifying the success of the ITS in various aspects of public transportation.

Under the ITS initiative, CTU buses on local routes have been equipped with CCTV cameras, providing supervisors in control rooms with a comprehensive inside view, significantly enhancing security measures for both passengers and staff. Commuters also benefit from a range of smart features, including live bus tracking, journey planning through a dedicated mobile app, and safety measures such as panic buttons. The implementation of AI-based CCTV cameras is anticipated to complement these existing efforts, fostering an overall enhanced experience for commuters.

The Chandigarh City Bus Service Society (CCBSS), under the guidance of Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, has not only approved the installation of AI-based CCTV cameras but has also greenlit a series of measures to improve the overall commuter experience at bus queue shelters. These include static route maps for better navigation, the addition of public utilities such as mobile charging points, emergency contact numbers, accessibility features for the physically handicapped, and measures for maintaining cleanliness, including the installation of solar panels on shelter roofs.

With Nitin Yadav leading the charge, these advancements signal a substantial step towards a more modern and efficient urban transportation system. The integration of AI technology and thoughtful infrastructure enhancements sets the stage for a future where safety, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction blend, reshaping the way we navigate and experience our cities.
