OEM IP Video Intercom: Design Checks Before Ordering

Door stations, resident credentials and lock relays must work as one system. Evaluate an OEM IP video intercom against the actual building network and emergency-egress requirements.
Sketch the full entry system with door station, indoor monitor, network and lock controller. An IP camera alone does not establish compatibility with the building’s lock-control and emergency egress design. Confirm power delivery, PoE budgets and backup behaviour during an outage. Entrance lighting and nighttime backlight can change facial visibility substantially.

Image, audio and access control
Check camera field of view for faces at different heights and at night. Specify weather exposure and the expected mounting surface before choosing the enclosure. SIP or ONVIF claims should be confirmed against the exact firmware combination in the proposed installation. Test audio clarity beside road noise and in a windy entrance.
Review SIP, ONVIF or other integration claims against exact firmware versions. Tenant turnover requires a repeatable method to revoke credentials and assign access to new residents.
Protocols and security maintenance
Confirm user provisioning and credential changes when tenants move in or out. Check door-release safety, relay isolation and emergency egress requirements. Backup power and failure behaviour need testing alongside the relevant fire and building requirements. Use a pilot installation to verify mobile notifications and recording retention.
Ask for cybersecurity update policy, firmware signing and vulnerability handling. OEM logo placement is secondary to stable firmware updates, spare parts and a defined response to vulnerabilities.
Agree on labelling, branding, spare parts and acceptance criteria for OEM batches. If they need extra explanations for the door station, controller and resident credentials, those missing steps should be written into the handover.
