Approved providers of long day care services have legal obligations relating to kindergarten funding and must have financial oversight of the use of grant funding provided to each service provider. The two groups ensure children receive the same number of hours of education across the year. The group has a maximum of 22 children and are led by an experienced and qualified early childhood teacher. We operate during QLD school terms and are closed for school holidays, public holidays and some pupil free days. Both our long day care centres and sessional kindergartens offer an approved kindergarten program. Sessional kindergartens run during school term and school hours, meaning the program runs for 40 weeks per year, from 8.30 am to 2.45 pm.

The funding offsets the fees for three and four-year-old children that are part of the centre's long day care Kindergarten program. Families will save up to $2,101 a year for children aged three-years-old and above in eligible long day cares. Rotational groups (4yo Blue & 3yo Green) allow more children to access our funded kindergarten program within our service hours whilst allowing all children to have a consistent home room. Each rotational cohort attends for two sessions of 7.5hours on their assigned days, joining another cohort each day to form the daily group.
Approved providers must enter into a new service agreement with the Department of Education at the beginning of each calendar year to remain eligible to receive kindergarten funding. This agreement is provided under the Community Services Act 2007 and binds approved providers to the standard terms and conditions, kindergarten funding category guidelines and kindergarten funding essentials. Long day care service providers are funded through quarterly payments over a calendar year, based on information provided by service providers to the Department of Education through EdGrants. Sessional kindergarten (sometimes referred to as ‘council kinder’) is a program offered to 3-4-year-olds during school term time. Sessional kindergarten is led by qualified teachers and is designed to introduce children to play-based learning. Sessional kindergarten is available in Victoria for up to 15 hours a week. The kindergarten program in long day care centres also runs for 40 weeks each year during school hours, however extended hours of care are provided.
