Objectives The main objective of the present study is to evaluate the mitigative effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Momordica cymbalaria fruits against sodium fluoride (NaF) induced hepatotoxicity. Methods In this study, Wistar male albino rats were randomly divided into five groups of six rats each. Group I and II served as normal and toxic controls. Group III as plant control received extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg b. wt, p.o and Groups IV and V as treatment groups received extract at a dose 200 and 400 mg/kg b. wt, p.o for 30 days. All groups except Groups I and III received 100 ppm of NaF through drinking water. After completion of the study, blood collected for the estimation of liver blood serum biomarkers such as aspartate aminotransferases (AST), alanine aminotransferases (ALT), alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), direct and total bilirubin, total protein and albumin. The liver tissue homogenate was for estimation of lipid peroxidation, catalase, and reduced glutathione levels. Results The results showed that NaF intoxication caused elevation of liver blood serum levels and lipid peroxidation; decreased levels of serum total protein, albumin and liver reduced glutathione, and catalase observed. The treatment groups showed decreased elevated serum biomarkers (ALT, AST, and ALP), liver lipid peroxidation and increased serum total protein and albumin, liver reduced glutathione and catalase levels in a dose-dependent manner. Histopathological studies also further strongly supported for mitigative effects of the plant. Conclusions In conclusion, our findings of the study indicated that M. cymbalaria fruits were a potential drug candidate in the treatment of NaF induced hepatotoxicity.Objectives This study aimed to explore the protective mechanism of caffeic acid (CAA) and chlorogenic acid (CHA) on cyclosporine (CSA) induced hypertensive rats. Methods Effect of CAA and CHA on diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), e-nucleotide triphosphate dephosphorylase (e-NTPDase), 5' nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase (ADA) activity in CSA-induced hypertensive rats were determined. Results CAA and CHA administration stabilized hypertensive effect caused by CSA administration. Also, altered activity of ACE (lung), e-NTPDase, 5' nucleotidase, ADA as well as elevated malondiadehyde (MDA) level was restored in all the treated hypertensive rats in comparison with the untreated hypertensive rats. Conclusion Hence, these observed results could underlie some of the mechanisms through which CAA and CHA could offer antihypertensive effect.
In this paper, we describe the steps followed for the development of a certified reference material for immunoglobulin G antibodies against β2-glycoprotein I (also known as apolipoprotein H). These steps include processing of the material, commutability, the impact of dilution, the appropriate reconstitution conditions, homogeneity and stability during transport and storage.

We analysed 69 clinical samples from patients suffering from antiphospholipid syndrome with several commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) purchased from in vitro diagnostic manufacturers.

Analysis of the results indicated that the candidate reference material can be safely freeze-dried, and that the user should carefully follow the reconstitution instructions as small changes in e.g. temperature may have unwanted effects. Hepcidin measurement advances insights in pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of iron disorders, but requires analytically sound and standardized measurement procedures (MPs). Recent development of a two-level secondary reference material (sRM) for hepcidin assays allows worldwide standardization. However, no proficiency testing (PT) schemes to ensure external quality assurance (EQA) exist and the absence of a high calibrator in the sRM set precludes optimal standardization.

We developed a pilot PT together with the DutchEQA organization Stichting Kwaliteitsbewaking Medische Laboratoriumdiagnostiek (SKML) that included 16 international hepcidin MPs. selleck chemicals The design included 12 human serum samples that allowed us to evaluate accuracy, linearity, precision and standardization potential. Plasma free metanephrines are commonly used for diagnosis of pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGLs), but can also provide other information. This multicenter study prospectively examined whether tumor size, location, and mutations could be predicted by these metabolites.

Predictions of tumor location, size, and mutation type, based on measurements of plasma normetanephrine, metanephrine, and methoxytyramine were made without knowledge of disease in 267 patients subsequently determined to have PPGLs.

Predictions of adrenal vs. extra-adrenal locations according to increased plasma concentrations of metanephrine and methoxytyramine were correct in 93 and 97% of the respective 136 and 33 patients in who these predictions were possible. Predicted mean tumor diameters correlated positively (p<0.0001) with measured diameters; predictions agreed well for pheochromocytomas but were overestimated for paragangliomas. Considering only patients with mutations, 51 of the 54 (94%) patients with NF1 or RET mutatutations. Predictions of tumor location are, however, only possible for patients with clearly increased plasma methoxytyramine or metanephrine. Where possible or clinically relevant the predictions are potentially useful for subsequent clinical decision-making.Permian felsic volcanic rocks were encountered in petroleum exploration boreholes in SE Hungary (eastern Pannonian Basin, Tisza Mega-unit, Békés-Codru Unit) during the second half of the 20th century. They were considered to be predominantly lavas (the so-called "Battonya quartz-porphyry") and were genetically connected to the underlying "Battonya granite." New petrographic observations, however, showed that the presumed lavas are crystal-poor (8-20 vol%) rhyolitic ignimbrites near Battonya and resedimented pyroclastic or volcanogenic sedimentary rocks in the Tótkomlós and the Biharugra areas, respectively. The studied ignimbrites are usually massive, matrix-supported, fiamme-bearing lapilli tuffs with eutaxitic texture as a result of welding processes. Some samples lack vitroclastic matrix and show low crystal breakage, but consist of oriented, devitrified fiammes as well. Textural features suggest that the latter are high-grade rheomorphic ignimbrites.Felsic volcanic rocks in SE Hungary belong to the Permian volcanic system of the Tisza Mega-unit; however, they show remarkable petrographic differences as compared to the other Permian felsic volcanic rocks of the mega-unit.
