GMC Yukon transmission slipping in 3rd gear – rebuild or replace?

I'm pretty stressed about my 2015 GMC Yukon. The transmission has started slipping when shifting into 3rd gear, especially when the engine is cold. Once it's warm it's better but I can still feel it flare between shifts. The fluid is dark but doesn't smell burnt. I took it to a shop and they said I need a full rebuild for around 8,000 dirhams. I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion. I found the Trusted GMC Repair in 800Sayara Dubai and they mention transmission services. Has anyone used them for GM transmissions? I've heard horror stories about rebuilds failing again after a year. Should I consider a used transmission from a scrap yard instead? The truck has 170,000km on it and is otherwise in good shape. Also how long can I drive it like this before it fails completely? I need the car for work so I'm trying to plan the repair without rushing into a bad decision. Any advice on what questions to ask a transmission shop to know if they're competent? Also is it worth trying a fluid and filter change first or is that just throwing money away at this point? Really appreciate any help from Yukon or Tahoe owners who've been through this. Thanks.
