Fluffy’s Body Language

One of the best ways to tell what your cat is thinking or feeling is by studying her body language. After all, your feline friend can’t exactly tell you what’s going through her head! Use these behaviors as discussed by your vet Tampa, FL to tell what your pet is thinking:

The Tail

Most of the time, your cat keeps her tail in the “default” position—held upright in a relaxed fashion, perhaps with a little curve at the end. When you see the tail sticking straight up with puffed-out hair, your cat is alarmed. It’s best to get out of the way!

The Ears

When your cat is alerted by something, she’ll point her ears up and tilt them forward a little. When she’s frightened or alarmed, the ears will turn back toward the back of the head. Most likely, your cat will bolt after that.

The Whiskers

Usually, Fluffy’s whiskers are sticking straight out from her face in the normal position. When she draws them back across the cheeks, she’s stressed or frightened by something. The next step will be either to run away or stand her ground and defend herself.
