Many women search for fibroid cancer symptoms because they are concerned about whether uterine fibroids could be cancerous. The good news is that uterine fibroids are almost always noncancerous (benign) growths that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. In very rare cases, a cancerous tumor known as uterine leiomyosarcoma may occur, but it is not believed to develop from a benign fibroid. Symptoms that require prompt medical evaluation include rapid growth of a uterine mass after menopause, persistent pelvic pain, unusual vaginal bleeding, unexplained weight loss, or severe abdominal swelling.
