eBay vs Amazon Competing-Product Mapping for a Seller
Author : Actowiz Solution | Published On : 26 Aug 2026
Client Snapshot
A US seller operating on both Amazon and eBay across ~3,000 SKUs in tools and hardware.
The Challenge
The seller knew their prices differed between the two platforms, but had no idea whether they were competitive on either. The blocker was that the two marketplaces describe the same product completely differently — different titles, different attribute schemas, different identifiers, and on eBay, frequently no identifier at all.
Without a reliable map between "my Amazon ASIN" and "the eBay listings selling the same thing," no competitive analysis was possible.
Objectives
-
Map each SKU to its competing listings on both platforms
-
Surface price, shipping cost and total landed cost per competitor
-
Identify SKUs where the seller was materially over- or under-priced
The Actowiz Approach
We treated this as an entity-resolution problem rather than a scraping problem. Listings were collected from both platforms and passed through a matching pipeline: identifier match first (UPC/EAN/MPN where present), then a scored fallback on brand + model + key specifications + title similarity.
Crucially, we compared landed cost, not sticker price — an eBay listing $4 cheaper with $12 shipping is not cheaper. Shipping and handling were extracted and added before comparison, which changed the competitive picture on roughly a third of SKUs.
