Understanding the Hardware Lifecycle
The IT hardware lifecycle covers the full period from planning and procurement through deployment, maintenance, replacement, and disposal. Each stage affects the overall cost and reliability of an organisation’s technology environment.

Sustainability is becoming an important part of IT asset management. Extending the useful life of suitable devices, redeploying equipment between departments, and using responsible recycling channels can reduce electronic waste.
When deciding whether to buy or lease IT hardware, organisations can also consider how each procurement model affects reuse, refurbishment, recycling, and end-of-life responsibility.
