Anyone who has waited on a railway platform between trains knows the usual food options: chips, biscuits, cold drinks, and the occasional stall selling something fried. Food vending machines are starting to change that pattern by offering something closer to an actual meal, right where travelers already stand waiting.

Payment is handled entirely through UPI, which removes one of the most common friction points at any station: carrying exact change or waiting for a vendor to process a card. A quick scan and tap completes the transaction, which matters enormously when trains do not wait for slow lines.
What makes these machines genuinely different from the standard vending setup is how the food itself is handled. Meals are kept at a controlled temperature between 45 and 60 degrees, so what comes out is a warm, hearty meal rather than something cold or stale. This is a meaningful departure from the usual station fare of packaged snacks, which offer convenience but rarely anything satisfying enough to count as a real meal before a long journey.
Behind this consistency is IoT technology working continuously in the background. Sensors monitor temperature and stock levels in real time, alerting operators when a machine needs restocking or maintenance before a traveler ever notices a problem. This kind of oversight is difficult to replicate with a traditional stall, where availability often depends on a single vendor's schedule.
For a station environment, where footfall is constant and time is always short, this model solves a problem that has existed for years: how to offer something better than packaged snacks without adding staffing or slowing down the flow of passengers. A vending machine does not need breaks, does not run out of patience during rush hours, and does not require a queue to function efficiently.
