Second visit of the quarter to this stretch of the industrial corridor, this time for the scheduled calibration audit rather than a complaint callout. Line 4 feeds three separate industrial consumers off a common bulk gas metering skid, plus a smaller tap that runs toward a CNG dispensing unit further down the road, so the skid sees a fairly uneven draw pattern through the day — heavy in the mornings when the units start their furnaces, tapering off by mid-afternoon.
Started with the upstream isolation and a manual pressure check before touching anything. Inlet held at 16.8 bar on the primary transmission feed, which is toward the higher end for this particular corridor but still within the certified working range for the equipment installed here. The pair of high pressure natural gas regulators on this skid are set up in a lead-lag configuration, one carrying the base load and the second cutting in once draw crosses a threshold that was set during commissioning a couple of years back. Lead unit was holding outlet steady around 5.3 bar through most of the morning draw, and the lag unit only kicked in briefly around eleven when two of the three industrial consumers happened to ramp up at the same time.
Regulator Response Under Combined Load
Watched the transition between lead and lag for a few cycles, mostly out of curiosity since the log hadn't flagged anything unusual here before. Handover was smooth, outlet pressure dipped to about 5.0 bar for maybe forty seconds before the lag unit caught up and pushed it back to setpoint. That kind of momentary sag is normal enough for this configuration, nothing that would trip a downstream device, but it got logged anyway since the audit sheet asks for transition behavior specifically this cycle.
Checked the pilot sensing lines on both regulators while access was open — no kinks, no visible corrosion at the fittings, connections snug. One of the diaphragm chambers had a faint smell of old lubricant residue during inspection, nothing concerning, just noted for the file in case it comes up again at the next cycle.
Meter Accuracy Cross-Check
The flow metering side of the skid uses a mix of equipment sourced over different procurement cycles, and this particular unit happens to be from one of the gas flow meter manufacturers in India that supplied the original skid build, which made cross-referencing the calibration certificate a bit easier since the documentation was still on file locally rather than needing an overseas lookup. Totalizer read 342,118.4 at the start of the check, and against a reference volume run over about thirty-five minutes during a steady industrial draw, the deviation worked out to just under half a percent, comfortably inside tolerance for a meter of this class and age.
Ran the same check against the smaller meter feeding the CNG tap separately, since that line sees a different flow profile entirely — short bursts of higher flow rather than the steady industrial pull. Deviation there came out slightly higher, close to one percent, which tracks with what's usually seen on meters handling that kind of intermittent loading rather than pointing toward any fault with the unit itself.
Correction Factor and Temperature Compensation
The electronic corrector tied to the main industrial line showed correction factor sitting around 1.091 through the check window, with the temperature sensor reading a couple of degrees warmer than the ambient thermometer carried on site, likely just a difference in mounting position relative to the pipe insulation rather than a sensor fault. Pressure compensation tracked cleanly against the regulator's outlet reading throughout, no lag or drift noticed even during the lead-lag transition mentioned earlier.
Filter and Downstream Skid Condition
Dry gas filter on the main run showed a differential of about 0.15 bar across the housing, a touch higher than the last audit but still well under the threshold that would call for cartridge replacement. Visual on the cartridge face showed a light, even coating rather than any localized buildup, consistent with normal loading over the interval since the last cycle. The relief valve downstream of the lag regulator got a manual lift check as part of the same visit, seated back cleanly with no chatter, and the slam shutoff on the CNG tap tripped within its expected differential during testing.
Junction box for the corrector's communication module was opened briefly to check terminal tightness — everything secure, no moisture ingress despite the humidity this stretch of corridor usually holds through the monsoon runoff period. Logged data pull from the corrector matched the local display reading, so no discrepancy on the remote reporting side this cycle.
Wrapped the audit a little before four, gauges reading inlet at 16.7 bar, outlet steady at 5.3 with the lead regulator, corrector holding its 1.091 correction factor on the final check. Closed the skid panel, packed the calibration references and reference meter back into the kit, and signed off the audit sheet before heading back down the corridor for the day.
