ABS Price Trend Q2 2026 Forecast, Chart And Index

Author : Nihal Negi | Published On : 13 Oct 2026

The ABS Price Trend in Q2 2026 showed a sharp increase during the first half of the quarter, followed by a correction in June. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is an important engineering plastic used in automobiles, electronic products, household appliances, toys, and many other everyday items.

Its price depends on the cost of raw materials, production levels, transportation, and demand from manufacturers. During Q2 2026, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East created major challenges for the global petrochemical industry.

Delays in raw material shipments and higher energy costs pushed ABS prices upward across several markets. However, as tensions eased toward the end of the quarter, feedstock costs started to fall, and buyers became more cautious.

This change in market conditions led to lower prices in June, showing how quickly the ABS market can respond to changes in supply and demand.

Understanding the ABS Market in Q2 2026

ABS is produced using three main raw materials: acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. These materials are closely connected to the petrochemical industry, which depends heavily on crude oil, naphtha, and other energy-related inputs. When the cost of these raw materials increases, ABS manufacturers usually face higher production expenses.

In Q2 2026, the market experienced a combination of supply shortages, higher feedstock costs, and uncertainty around international shipping. Disruptions connected to the Middle East affected naphtha movements and created concerns about the availability of important petrochemical inputs. The Strait of Hormuz became a major point of concern because disruptions to shipping through this route can affect energy and chemical supply chains.

At the same time, reduced operating rates, maintenance activities, and production interruptions at some Asian facilities limited the availability of certain raw materials and finished ABS products. These conditions encouraged suppliers to increase their selling prices.

However, higher prices did not continue without interruption. Toward the end of the quarter, easing geopolitical tensions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz helped improve supply expectations. Crude oil and feedstock prices corrected, while buyers focused on existing inventories instead of making large purchases. As a result, the market moved from a strong upward trend toward a more cautious position.

ABS Prices in India: Higher Costs Followed by a June Correction

The movement in ABS Prices in India was one of the important developments in the Asian market during Q2 2026. Domestic ABS prices increased by 37.35% compared with Q1 2026, reflecting higher feedstock costs and tighter availability.

India depends on both domestic production and imported material to meet demand from different manufacturing industries. When international prices increase, imported ABS becomes more expensive, and this can influence domestic selling prices. Even when locally produced material remains available, higher import replacement costs can affect the pricing decisions of suppliers.

During Q2 2026, delays in Middle Eastern naphtha shipments placed pressure on the availability and cost of important petrochemical feedstocks. Styrene and butadiene prices increased, raising production expenses across the ABS value chain. Temporary restrictions on LPG usage for petrochemical production also added pressure to feedstock availability.

Domestic selling prices remained firm as higher-priced imports supported the market. Successive price increases by local suppliers reflected the additional cost of manufacturing and the limited availability of competitively priced material.

However, the situation changed in June. ABS prices in India declined by 6.28% as lower-priced imports from major Asian suppliers reduced import replacement costs. Comfortable inventories and subdued manufacturing demand also limited the need for additional purchases.

Automotive manufacturers, electronics producers, and household appliance companies became more careful with their buying decisions. Rather than purchasing large volumes at higher prices, many buyers focused on immediate requirements. This reduced the pressure on sellers to maintain earlier price levels.

The Indian market therefore showed two different phases during the quarter: a strong increase in response to higher costs and supply concerns, followed by a correction as imported material became more competitive and buyers adopted a cautious approach.
