Landscape Architecture, Playing a Significant Role in Architectural Culture

Even though not many people are familiar with the concept, called landscape architecture, it has been occupying a huge position in the architectural culture. Ever since its evolution, landscape design which played an important role in European architectural lineage, is associated with aristocratic display.

Landscape Design, Forming a Significant Part of Architectural Design

Even though landscape design was being portrayed as a communal civic system, the formal gardens in parts of Europe like Berkshire and other places were used to express power and territorial control. Soon landscapes were perceived as a chief aspect playing an active role in architectural design in Berkshire.

Public parks were regarded as a green relief; although not considered to be a structural component of mainstream concrete architecture. Building or roads were used to define an urban essence while landscape was earlier treated much as amenities to boost the value of real estate.

The priorities of architectural design in Berkshire, soon began to evolve. Industrial expansion replaced too much emphasis on constructions and a sense of permanence and density. Meanwhile, as architecture today is used to shape a city’s identity, landscapes are included in the designs to soften the concrete edges of the picture.

The ground or the greenery has become an integral part of modern architectural design. Climate volatility has pushed architects to perceive urban growth in a different picture altogether. Landscape architecture is described as a beautification process even though it silently holds more responsibilities than determining the decorative aspect of a design.

Meanwhile, we are seeing landscape architecture expanding beyond just being a concept of beautification as there are projects that clearly operate as flood defence across coastal areas. Such projects primarily focus on grading and planting across shorelines to absorb negative impacts of the environment. Landscaping here is not regarded as part of an infrastructure but rather it operates as a primary infrastructure.

There are several flood prone territories which are reimagined by means of introducing resilient landscapes that restructure the access to natural ecosystems.

According experts, what is considered to be the most significant landscaping works of today, is not simply a parkland adding some amount of green to urban infrastructure. Landscaping in certain parts of Berkshire operate as a master plan, reshaping architectural culture, largely. According to modern studies landscape is positioned as a primary organising framework used for development, coordinating circulation and maintaining ecological networks.

Seen differently, architectural culture is now led with landscape master plans which reverse any traditional sequence that comes with urban design. Buildings these days respond to landscape logic and not the other way round.
