Samsung Fridge Freezers With SmartThings

Samsung's Family Hub fridge comes with an oversized 389-litre fridge with a an 225-litre freezer. It's a big American model that comes with a high-quality temperature control system as well as numerous clever features.

Frydge can make it your own with removable panels to make it fit with your collection of matte black Rick Owens clothing and tie-dye Crocs.

All Round Cooling

Separate cooling circuits in fridges with All Round Cooing help keep your food fresher. Conventional fridges have one evaporator that cools both the freezer and refrigerator compartment. This usually means that the low humidity air from your freezer is circulated into your fridge and it can cause your food items to dry out. This can cause food to taste bland and unpleasant.

With All-Round Cooling, each shelf level has multiple vents that circulate cool air. This allows for a more consistent temperature, even when you shut and open the refrigerator door.

Optimal Fresh Zone keeps meats and fish fresher for twice as long as conventional refrigerators, without freezing them. This feature is a game-changer for those who love cooking but isn't a fan of freezing frozen meat or fish.

All Round Cooling employs an All Round Cooling metal cooling plate at the back of the refrigerator to retain cold air and avoid the loss of it when you open the door. It also reduces your need for power defrosting, saving you time and money.

Samsung refrigerators come with one of the top ice dispensers we've tested. The patent-pending Twist Ice Maker dispensing large cubes is operated with a simple twist and can be kept below the fridge when not being used. This frees up more space on the shelf and makes it easier to locate your favorite beverages and snacks.

You can select which way your freezer and fridge open with Reversible Doors. This lets you easily integrate your fridge in the kitchen layout and keep your fridge clean and tidy.

Samsung's Family Hub is the central control center for your SmartThings connected home through the large touchscreen on your refrigerator. It can display a live video feed from your smart doorbell, place orders for groceries based on an automated inventory, or suggest recipes that use what you have in stock.

The flex drawers that are located on the bottom of Samsung refrigerators are a clever storage solution that make it easier to store taller items such as canned drinks or pizza trays. They can be flipped down when not in use and then folded flat to use less space. This is an excellent feature for people who are passionate about cooking and baking, but have limited refrigerator storage space.

FlexZone

The Samsung FlexZone side-by-side fridge freezer has a unique three-zone system that lets you add an extra refrigerator compartment or freezer drawer to your setup. This flexibility allows you to modify your fridge freezer to best fit your needs and storage requirements. It also makes it easy to upgrade to a larger or smaller fridge with the addition of an extra FlexZone module.

The stylish design of the fridge will complement any kitchen decor. Its stainless-steel finish is durable and sleek. It also has an anti-fingerprint coating to keep the surface looking new. The refrigerator comes with an external water and ice dispenser to make it even more practical.

It's a good-looking fridge with the bottom-right FlexZone compartment that can be converted from refrigerator to freezer. This lets you store items such as ice cream, bags frozen meat, frozen vegetables or fish in the freezer. It also performed well in our tests, but the 21.5-inch touchscreen's bloated apps and lack of SmartThings or voice control integration make it seem like a missed opportunity.

The remainder of the fridge is full of space to store food, including two crisper trays as well as a middle FlexZone drawer that can be customized. This drawer lets you choose among five different settings based upon the needs of your fridge freezer compartment. There is a freeze setting that matches the freezer settings as well as the soft freeze setting for wine or deli tray, a meat or fish setting, and the beverage setting for drinks, snacks and other items that are frequently accessed.

This Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator is ideal for families who wish to have a fridge and freezer in one. It's not as big as high-end French-door models, but it does come with a number of useful features. It's a good alternative for those with limited space in their homes.

The Samsung Fridge Freezer is also an extremely energy efficient fridge, thanks to its digital inverter technology. This technology regulates the temperature inside the fridge, so it doesn't change too much, and helps keep your food fresher for longer. Its energy efficiency has earned it an ENERGY STAR certification.

SmartThings

SmartThings isn't quite the same platform that Alexa and Google Assistant are but it does come with numerous smart devices that you can connect to. It's also built into Samsung smartphones, tablets and TVs - as well as some fridges. It might be enough for some particularly if they own several Samsung products.

The SmartThings App is well-rounded, and refined, with an "if x is greater than y, then y" automation section that works well. You can set up things such as alarms that go off when sensors for water leaks detect the presence of a flood, or turn on the lights when your phone detects that you're at home. It can even control your refrigerator by connecting it to a smart plug, although we've seen mixed results with that.

SmartThings requires a hub, which isn't cheap. Samsung offers a range of options which include the SmartThings Station that you can attach to an existing router and use it as a nightlight. There's a cheaper SmartThings hub dongle that supports Z-Wave, Zigbee and Thread.

Once you've connected your smart refrigerator to your phone and hub, it's very easy to use. The SmartThings app lets you manage your fridge from anywhere, with notifications sent to your smartphone whenever it's closed or opened. You can create schedules, alter the temperature and even set reminders.

SmartThings is a founding member of the Home Connectivity Alliance, which is working to make major home appliances from a variety of manufacturers interoperable. That could mean you can control your Samsung washer and dryer, Electrolux oven and LG television from the same app in the near future.

While it's not as widely supported as Alexa or Google Assistant, SmartThings does have some big names on its list which include Arlo, Nest, Belkin and Lifx. It's also compatible with Matter, an open protocol that allows devices to connect regardless of brand. For most people however, combining Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls is probably the best option.

Family Hub

A fridge freezer isn't much more modern than this: it comes with a 21-inch touchscreen in the door, and comes with a host of clever features. You can access entertainment apps, leave notes for family members (think a huge digital version of a notebook that's stuck to the fridge), check the weather and more, thanks to Samsung's own voice assistant, Bixby.

The touchscreen allows you to manage food and recipes. You can add ingredients from an app and view the contents of your fridge with internal cameras. You can create a grocery list while on the go and monitor foods to track their expiration dates. You can even use a dedicated recipe app that will read out the instructions while you cook.

This is the second generation of Family Hub fridges and Samsung claims that it's spent the past year fine-tuning them based on customer feedback. One key change is that you can now set different profiles for each family member so that they can customize the apps and information they can access. It's not as good as Alexa integration into your fridge, but it's an improvement over the model of last year.

Besides its features for entertainment and grocery management, Family Hub also acts as an interface for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be used to control Matter-compatible devices like lights and plugs as well as locks.

Samsung's fridge is a few years old and while it still has plenty of features but its touchscreen features are not a feature that majority of people would consider essential. They're more fun and a bit of frivolous extras than anything else.

This may be changed with the release of more software updates, but at present these models are ideal for those who want to have the most extensive connected refrigerator possible. You can save money by buying one without the Family Hub if you're not one of those people. This could be worth it when you have a number of smart home appliances that need to be controlled by the same device, or if you like the idea of refrigerators with a huge touchscreen.
