It’s never fun to think about a disaster situation. But the reality is the best way to deal with one is to be prepared. Whether it’s a natural disaster like a hurricane, flood, or wildfire, or man-made catastrophe, you can take steps to make sure you and your pet stay safe. Learn more here from vets Wake Forest, NC.
Make a bug-out bag.
Pack a bag that you can grab at a moment’s notice if you have to leave town. Include pet first-aid supplies: gauze, a pet-safe disinfectant, styptic powder, a pet thermometer, scissors, tweezers, and a few soft towels. Consider long-term supplies like bottled water, canned food (don’t forget a can opener), dishes, a leash and collar, and a pet bed.
Make a plan.
The most important thing is to have a plan ahead of time. If a sudden disaster forces you to take cover in your home, think about a central area away from windows. If you leave town, research vet clinics and animal shelters along the route. Check with friends and family who live elsewhere to see if they would take you and your pet in.
