Tendon injuries are commonly seen in sports medicine practice. Solcitinib Many elite players involved in high-impact activities develop patellar tendinopathy (PT) symptoms. Of them, a small percentage will develop refractory PT and need to undergo surgery. In some of these patients, surgery does not resolve these symptoms.

To report the clinical results in a cohort of athletes who underwent further surgery after failure of primary surgery for PT.

A total of 22 athletes who had undergone revision surgery for failed surgical management of PT were enrolled in the present study. Symptom severity was assessed through the Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment Scale for Patellar Tendinopathy (VISA-P) upon admission and at the final follow-up. Time to return to training, time to return to competition, and complications were also recorded.

The mean age of the athletes was 25.4 years, and the mean symptom duration from the index intervention was 15.3 months. At a mean follow-up of 30ths.
Many factors can affect clinical outcomes and complications after a complex multiligament knee injury (MLKI). Certain aspects of the treatment algorithm for MLKI, such as the timing of surgery, remain controversial.

To determine the risk factors for common complications after MLKI reconstruction.

A retrospective review was conducted on 134 patients with MLKI who underwent reconstruction between 2011 and 2018 at a single academic center. Patients included in the review had a planned surgical reconstruction of >1 ligament based on clinical examination and magnetic resonance imaging. Complications were categorized as (1) wound infection requiring irrigation and debridement, (2) arthrofibrosis requiring manipulation under anesthesia and/or lysis of adhesions, (3) deep venous thrombosis, (4) need for removal of hardware, and (5) revision ligament surgery. The potential risk factors for complications included patient characteristics, injury pattern categorized aceffective to reduce the complication rate in patients.
The study findings suggest that smoking, decreased time from injury to initial surgery, and planned staged procedures may increase the rate of complications. Further studies are needed to determine which changes in the treatment algorithm are most effective to reduce the complication rate in patients.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has been reported to have a higher incidence in women than in men.

The purpose was to examine the relationship of anterior knee laxity (AKL), stiffness, and generalized joint laxity (GJL) with respect to the menstrual cycle. It was hypothesized that AKL and GJL would increase during the ovulation phase, when estrogen levels are high.

Descriptive laboratory study.

A total of 15 female university students aged >20 years and with normal menstrual cycles were evaluated. AKL was measured as anterior tibial displacement of the femur after application of 44-, 89-, and 133-N loads to the tibia. Stiffness was calculated as Δ force/Δ displacement at loads between 44 and 89 N and between 89 and 133 N. The University of Tokyo joint laxity test was used for evaluation of GJL. The participants' menstrual cycle was divided into the early follicular, late follicular, ovulation, and luteal phases using the basal body temperature method and an ovulation kit; AKL and GJL were ms in women.
The results of this study suggest that the ovulation phase may be related to the greater incidence of ACL injuries in women.
There has been renewed interest in the concept of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) suture repair (ACLSR). Morphologic characteristics of the ruptured ACL remnant play a role in deciding whether a patient is eligible for ACLSR. However, no classification of these characteristics of ACL rupture on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans has yet been compared with intraoperative findings in the context of ACLSR.

To investigate the value of using preoperative MRI to predict specific characteristics of acute complete ACL rupture.

A total of 25 patients were included. Two radiologists classified ACL rupture location and pattern on preoperative 1.5-T MRI scans with a standard sequence; the results were compared with the corresponding findings at arthroscopy conducted by a single surgeon. The agreement between the MRI and surgical findings was calculated using Cohen κ values. Furthermore, the reliability coefficients of the MRI classifications within and between current study, we found poor to slight agreement between MRI classification and arthroscopic findings of specific ACL rupture characteristics. In addition, the intra- and interobserver reliability for MRI classification of the ACL rupture characteristics was slight to moderate.
The popularity of mixed martial arts (MMA) continues to grow in the United States. Although prior work has provided valuable insight concerning injuries in the sport, much of the available literature is limited by factors such as small sample sizes, varying athlete demographics, and inconsistent data collection methods.

To report injury rates and types in MMA and analyze potential variance between competition and match variables.

Descriptive epidemiology study.

We performed a retrospective review of injuries sustained by fighters during MMA contests between 2018 and 2019 using ringside physician postmatch injury reports from Wisconsin and Arizona. The prevalence of overall injuries and specific injury types was compared by location (Arizona vs Wisconsin), competition level (amateur vs professional), match result (decisions vs any other result), and match winners versus losers.

In 503 contests, 285 (57%) had at least 1 injury. In these 285 matches, participants experienced 401 injuries 197 (49%) in pinners. The prevalence of specific injury types varied by competition level, match result, and match winners versus losers. The results of this study may be used to better understand the current injury profile in MMA and to develop targeted strategies for injury prevention.
