Teen Language Immersion Trips

It can be so easy to think that, with English being the language of global air travel, being proficient in English is “enough” when it comes to language capability. But there can be so many benefits for young people of learning an additional language – and not only if they intend to eventually move to another part of the world, or to pursue a career teaching English to non-English speakers.

We’re referring to such advantages as greater confidence when they are engaging with people from other countries, helping build cross-cultural connections, helping breakdown barriers between countries, or even perhaps just enabling themselves to more easily “get around” when they are next on an overseas vacation.

Beyond even that, learning a language also stimulates the brain and helps to enhance creativity, at the same time as opening up more career options for an ambitious young person. In short, being bilingual can really help your teen become a global citizen.

From language lessons to language immersion – we make it possible!

With all the above in mind… it’s one thing to try to learn a language through classroom lessons, and quite another thing to immerse yourself in that language and culture, surrounded by people who have been speaking it all of their lives.

Here at The Road Less Traveled, we help students use what they have learnt in the classroom, and give them the opportunities to put it into practice in real world settings. We often hear from students how it helps them develop their language confidence, as conversations are more natural and there is always support and coaching when needed.

At The Road Less Traveled (RLT), we offer a range of language immersion programs, which could be key to helping your teen build their self-confidence, social skills, and sense of service, as well as their language competency.

Our language immersion trips that are now available for summer 2024 enrolment include:

  • Costa Rica: Coast to Canopy, a 14-day Spanish immersion program centered on local community work and the repair of village infrastructure in a rural community within the Turrialba Valley
  • Spain: Connect Through Community, which gives young people the chance to practice their Spanish language capability with the locals, as they also get to grips with the Spanish way of life and help with food-based community service projects
  • Kenya: Safari And Service, a community and safari program spread over 16 days, in a fascinating country in which more than 60 different languages are spoken – including English and Swahili
  • Galapagos: Island Immersion, which takes young people on a journey to one of the most famous islands in the world for immersion, service, Spanish exposure and more!
  • Puerto Rico: Reefs To Rainforests, a Spanish language immersion program that also puts a big emphasis on service and adventure. It incorporates opportunities to explore gorgeous beaches and rainforests, as well as kayaking and snorkeling
