The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Its primary responsibility is to regulate and oversee the food safety and hygiene standards in India.

  1. Determine the category of your food business: FSSAI Registration requirements vary based on the nature and scale of the food business. There are three categories: Basic Registration, State License, and Central License. You need to determine which category applies to your business.

  2. Basic Registration: Basic Registration is applicable to small-scale food businesses. The criteria for Basic Registration include an annual turnover of up to Rs. 12 lakh (for most states) and a production capacity not exceeding specified quantities. You can apply for Basic Registration through the FSSAI online portal or by submitting the application to the Regional Authority.
